After an emotional first day, which saw the winning comeback of Petra Kvitova, the French Open continues on Monday with the début of both defending champions.
At 11:00 local time (5:00 EDT), reigning women’s champion, Garbiñe Muguruza, will start her Roland Garros campaign against former champion Francesca Schiavone. Can the Italian make one last great run in Paris?
Following the women’s match, the men’s defending champion, Novak Djokovic, will début both his new apparel, Lacoste, and his new coach, Andre Agassi. The Serbian will face Spaniard Marcel Granollers.
At the same time, on Suzanne-Lenglen, the favourite for the title, nine-time champion Rafael Nadal, will play his first match against local Benoît Paire.
Other Day 2 popcorn matches at the French Open
On Court 1, also at approximately 13:00 local time (7:00 EDT), another Frenchman, Paul-Henri Mathieu, will start the last French Open main draw of his career against tenth seed David Goffin.
Finally, the last matches on both Philippe-Chatrier and Court 16 should be crackers. On the centre court, at approximately 16:30 local time (10:30 EDT), Rome champion Sascha Zverev will face Fernando Verdasco. On Court 16, new dad Fabio Fognini will face U.S. rising star Frances Tiafoe.
