The Coupe Rogers présentée par Banque Nationale announced that Roger Federer, runner-up in Toronto last year, will not attend the tournament in Montreal, which starts in a little over a week from now.
The world number two expressed his regrets for not attending the Montreal event for the second consecutive time (he also missed it in 2013): “I am disappointed that I won’t be playing in Montreal because it’s a tournament and a city that I really enjoy and has incredible fans. My family and I have always received first class treatment from Tournament Director, Eugène Lapierre, and his team and I hope to be back in the future.”
No further reason has been given as to the reason the Swiss has pulled out of the event.
Jerzy Janowicz will take the main draw spot left vacant by Federer.
